Add an event

Nextdoor allows you to create and post events online, as well as to invite your neighbors and community members. It's a great way to get the word out about local events like yard sales, neighborhood meet-ups, and community-wide holiday get-togethers.

If you post commercial events or post events frequently, it's important NOT to post to the newsfeed or you may be in violation of Nextdoor's Community Guidelines regarding commercial self-promotion or over-posting. A good rule of thumb is to post no more than one event per week.
 
 
  1. Visit the Events calendar page.
  2. Click Add Event in the top right corner.
  3. Complete the event form.
  4. If you would like to make your event viewable or shareable with anyone (see below), be sure that the box next to Allow anyone on Nextdoor to view or share this event is checked. Otherwise, make sure the box is not checked.
  5. By default, when you create your event, the box next to Announce this event to your neighbors is checked, and your new event will appear in the newsfeed. If you don't wish a notification about your event to appear in the newsfeed, you can simply uncheck the box.
  6. Click Post event.
  1. Tap the New Post icon in the top right corner of the app.
  2. Tap EVENT.
  3. Select the audience that you would like to post your event to. You can select your immediate neighborhood only, your neighborhood + Nearby Neighborhoods, or a group.
  4. Tap Next.
  5. Add a title and description for the event, then tap Next.
  6. Enter the date, time and location for the event. 
  7. Under Visibility, toggle the switch ON if you would like to make your event viewable by all Nextdoor members, or OFF if the event should only be viewable by members who receive your post.
  8. Tap Next.
  9. Add a cover photo, then tap Post.
  1. Tap the green plus sign (+) in the bottom right corner of the app.
  2. Select Event.
  3. Select the audience that you would like to post your event to. You can select your immediate neighborhood only, your neighborhood + Nearby Neighborhoods, or a group.
  4. Tap NEXT.
  5. Add the event details. If you would like to make your event viewable by all Nextdoor members, check the box. If the box is left unchecked, the event will only be viewable by those who receive your post.
  6. Tap NEXT.
  7. Add a cover photo if desired.
  8. Tap SEND.
 
NOTE:
  • If you'd like to upload a photo, a 700 x 240 image will fit best. 
  • Photos must be in .JPG, .PNG, .GIF, or .TIFF formats.

Clicking 'Post Event' will add your event both to the newsfeed as a post and to the Events calendars of the neighbors with whom you shared the event. A public event page will also be created if you checked the box next to Allow anyone on Nextdoor to view or share this event.

You can choose to be notified when any of your neighbors indicate that they plan on "Going" or "Maybe" going to your event from the event's details page. Simply check the box next to Notify me when neighbors respond in the lower right of your event's cover photo.
