How can we help you?

Add an event

Last Updated: May 30, 2017 12:22PM PDT

Nextdoor allows you to create and post events online, as well as to invite your neighbors and community members. It's a great way to get the word out about local events like yard sales, neighborhood meet-ups, and community-wide holiday get-togethers.

If you post commercial events* or post events frequently, it's important NOT to post to the newsfeed or you may be in violation of Nextdoor's Community Guidelines regarding commercial self-promotion or over-posting. A good rule of thumb is to post no more than one event per week.

  1. Visit the Events calendar.
  2. Click Add event in the top right corner.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Fill in the date, time, and location.
  5. To make the event publicly visible, check Add to public event calendar. Otherwise, uncheck the box.
  6. By default, the Announce to neighbors box is checked, meaning your new event will appear in the Newsfeed. To post to the Events calendar without making an announcement in the Newsfeed, uncheck the box.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select a photo.
  9. Click Post.
  1. Open the Nextdoor for iPhone app.
  2. Tap  at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select EVENT.
  4. Choose where you would like to share your post. You can select your neighborhood only, or your neighborhood + your Nearby Neighborhoods, or a Group.
  5. Tap Next.
  6. Add a title and description for the event, then tap Next.
  7. Enter the date, time and location for the event.
  8. Switch the button next to Viewable by all Nextdoor members to:
    • ON if the event should be public
    • OFF if the event should only be visible to the neighbors you chose in step #4.
  9. Tap Next.
  10. Add a cover photo, then tap Post.
  1. Open the Nextdoor for Android app.
  2. Tap in the bottom right corner.
  3. Select Event.
  4. Choose where you would like to share your post. You can select your neighborhood only, or your neighborhood + your Nearby Neighborhoods, or a Group.
  5. Tap NEXT.
  6. Add the event details.
  7. Check the box next to Viewable by all Nextdoor members if the event should be public. If the event should only be visible to the neighbors you chose in step #4, keep the box unchecked.
  8. Tap NEXT.
  9. Add a cover photo if desired.
  10. Tap SEND.

NOTE:
  • If you'd like to upload a photo, a 700 x 240 image will fit best.
  • Photos must be in .JPG, .PNG, .GIF, or .TIFF formats.

Clicking 'Post Event' will add your event both to the newsfeed as a post and to the Events calendars of the neighbors with whom you shared the event. A public event page will also be created if you checked the box next to Allow anyone on Nextdoor to view or share this event.

You can choose to be notified when any of your neighbors indicate that they plan on "Going" or "Maybe" going to your event from the event's details page. Simply check the box next to Notify me when neighbors respond in the lower right of your event's cover photo.

*You can only post commercial events on a web browser. Our mobile apps do not have the option of unchecking the Announce to neighbors box, which is required by our Guidelines.
