Pet Directory FAQ

NOTE: We're still fixing a few known issues on the Pet Directory. Thanks for your patience!

Found a lost cat? Want to walk with some fellow pet parents? Visit the Pet Directory to contact other pet owners in your neighborhood.

Add your pet

  1. Click Pet Directory in the left side menu.
  2. Click Add pet in the top right corner.
  3. Fill in requested information. (You'll need to add a photo in order for your pet to be included in the Pet Directory.)
  4. Click Next.
  5. Share the Pet Directory with your animal loving friends!

The Pet Directory is not currently available on Nextdoor for iPhone.

  1. Open the Nextdoor for Android app.
  2. Tap  in the bottom right corner.
  3. Tap your profile picture.
  4. Scroll to the Family section.
  5. Tap Edit.
  6. Tap Add a family member or pet.
  7. Tap ADD A PET.
  8. Fill in the requested information. (You'll need to add a photo in order for your pet to be included in the Pet Directory.)
  9. Tap Add.
  10. Share the Pet Directory with your animal loving friends!

1. Who can see my pet's address?

If you're adding your pet for the first time, your pet's information will be shared with your neighborhood and Nearby Neighborhoods by default.

To change your pet's visibility, edit their profile by clicking your pet's photo in the Pet Directory. Click Edit profile. Make changes as desired.

2. How do I remove my pet from the Pet Directory?

Visit the Pet Directory and click on your pet's photo. Then, click Edit profile. Finally, select Remove pet.

3. How do I contact a pet's owner?

Visit the Pet Directory and click on the pet's photo. At the bottom of the page, click on the owner's profile image. On owner's profile page, click Message

4. Do my spouse and I both need to add our pets?

If you've designated your spouse as your family on your profile page, then both you and your spouse will automatically show up as your pet's owners on their profile page. Your spouse does not also need to add your pets.

If both you and your spouse add your pet, the pet will appear twice in the Pet Directory. If that happens, one of you just needs to remove your pet's photo from the pet profile, and that will remove one of the listings from the directory.

5. What's Rover?

We have partnered with Rover, a company connecting pet owners with pet services nationwide, to provide a special offer to members who participate in our Pet Directory. Your information will not be shared with Rover unless you confirm that you would like to claim the credit Rover is offering. 

6. Are there any known issues with the New Pet Directory?
