What is address verification?

Last Updated: Apr 15, 2014 04:35PM PDT

Nextdoor ensures a secure and trusted environment for your neighborhood website by requiring all members to verify their address.

Address verification provides the assurance that new members are indeed residing at the address they provided when registering for their Nextdoor account. Once a neighborhood has launched out of pilot status, only members who have verified their address will have access to their Nextdoor neighborhood website content.

Nextdoor uses the following methods to verify the address of every member:

  • Credit or debit card. Nextdoor can instantly verify your home address through a credit or debit card billing address. We only confirm your billing address, and will not store your information or charge your card.

  • Home phone. If you have a landline phone, you can choose to receive an automated phone call from Nextdoor that will provide you with a unique code to verify your account. **

  • Leads. Leads of a Nextdoor neighborhood can use the Verify neighbors feature to vouch for and verify neighbors.

  • Mobile phone.  We will call your mobile phone to verify your account. **

  • Neighbor invitations. Accepting an invitation from a verified member in the same neighborhood will allow you to join Nextdoor as a verified member. (NOTE: If you accept an invitation from a verified member in a different neighborhood, you will need to verify your account through one of the other verification methods.)

  • Postcard. Nextdoor can send a postcard to the address listed on your Nextdoor account with a unique code printed on it. This code will allow you to verify your account. Postcards usually take 3-5 business days for delivery.

  • Social Security Number (SSN). Nextdoor can instantly verify your home address through the last 4 digits of your SSN. We do not store this information or share it with any third party sources. **

** This option isn't available for everyone.
