Verify your address

Before you can participate on Nextdoor, you must verify the address used to create your account.

You may join and verify in a neighborhood if you:

NOTE: Not all methods are available for all addresses. All verification methods are free.

  • Phone number

    To verify your account, your phone billing address must match the address you used to sign up for Nextdoor. We will call you to provide an authentication code that must be entered, as instructed below.

    1. Visit the address verification page.
    2. Select Verify by phone
    3. Enter your phone number.
    4. Click VERIFY.
    5. If we can't find a match, you may need to use a different method to verify.
    1. Open the Nextdoor for iPhone app.
    2. If you haven't created an account on Nextdoor before, tap Create an Account and follow the prompts. If you've created an account, but just haven't verified, select Sign in and enter your credentials.
    3. Once you arrive at the "Verify your address" screen, tap Next.
    4. Tap Verify by phone.
    5. Enter your phone number.
    6. Tap Check availability.
    7. If we can't find a match, tap Cancel and choose a different verification method.
    1. Open the Nextdoor for Android app.
    2. If you haven't created an account on Nextdoor before, tap Create an Account and follow the prompts. If you've created an account, but just haven't verified, select Sign in and enter your credentials.
    3. Once you arrive at the "Verify address" screen, tap Next.
    4. Tap Verify by phone.
    5. Enter your phone number.
    6. Tap Check availability.
    7. If we can't find a match, you may need to use a different method to verify.
  • Credit or debit card 

    Nextdoor can instantly verify your account by comparing your Nextdoor address to your card's billing address, using your card network's Address Verification Service. This is a common risk management method used by most eCommerce sites (and even your gas station!).

    We do not store, use, or share your credit or debit card number, nor will the verification show up on a credit report.

    There is no charge when verifying with a credit or debit card.

    1. Visit the address verification page
    2. Select verifying with your credit or debit card.
    3. Enter the requested information.
    4. Click VERIFY.
    5. If we can't find a match, you may need to use a different method to verify.
    1. Open the Nextdoor for iPhone app.
    2. If you haven't created an account on Nextdoor before, tap Create an Account and follow the prompts. If you've created an account, but just haven't verified, select Sign in and enter your credentials.
    3. Once you arrive at the "Verify your address" screen, tap Next.
    4. Tap Verify by credit or debit card.
    5. Follow the prompts.
    6. If we can't find a match, you may need to use a different method to verify.
    1. Open the Nextdoor for Android app.
    2. If you haven't created an account on Nextdoor before, tap Create an Account and follow the prompts. If you've created an account, but just haven't verified, select Sign in and enter your credentials.
    3. Once you arrive at the "Verify address" screen, tap Next.
    4. Tap Verify by credit or debit card.
    5. Follow the prompts.
    6. If we can't find a match, you may need to use a different method to verify.
  • Postcard 

    Nextdoor will mail a postcard containing a verification code to your house. It may take up to 10 business days for the postcard to arrive. Once the postcard arrives, you'll need to enter the code, as instructed below.

    NOTE: Nextdoor does not send verification postcards to P.O. Boxes. If you don't receive mail at your physical address, please choose another method to verify.

    1. Visit the address verification page.
    2. Select Verify by postcard.
    3. Select Send me a postcard.
    4. Once you receive your postcard, you'll need to open the address verification page and enter your verification code.
    5. Select Verify.
    1. Open the Nextdoor for iPhone app.
    2. If you haven't created an account on Nextdoor before, tap Create an Account and follow the prompts. If you've created an account, but just haven't verified, select Sign in and enter your credentials.
    3. Once you arrive at the "Verify your address" screen, tap Next.
    4. Tap Verify by postcard.
    5. Follow the prompts.
    6. Once you receive your postcard, you'll need to open the Nextdoor for iPhone app and enter your verification code.
    7. Select Verify.
    1. Open the Nextdoor for Android app.
    2. If you haven't created an account on Nextdoor before, tap Create an Account and follow the prompts. If you've created an account, but just haven't verified, select Sign in and enter your credentials.
    3. Once you arrive at the "Verify address" screen, tap Next.
    4. Tap Verify by postcard.
    5. Follow the prompts.
    6. Once you receive your postcard, you'll need to open the Nextdoor for Android app and enter your verification code.
    7. Select Verify.

    Tip: Nextdoor sends two kinds of postcards: invitation and verification. Please make sure you are entering a verification code (not an invitation code!) when attempting to verify.

  • Last 4 of SSN 

    Nextdoor can instantly verify your account by confirming that your Nextdoor address matches the address associated with your Social Security Number (SSN). We do not store, use, or share your SSN.

    If you're uncomfortable verifying by SSN, please choose another method.

    1. Visit the address verification page
    2. Select verifying with your Social Security Number.
    3. Enter the requested information.
    4. Click VERIFY.
    5. If we can't find a match, you may need to use a different method to verify.
    1. Open the Nextdoor for iPhone app.
    2. If you haven't created an account on Nextdoor before, tap Create an Account and follow the prompts. If you've created an account, but just haven't verified, select Sign in and enter your credentials.
    3. Once you arrive at the "Verify your address" screen, tap Next.
    4. Tap Verify by Social Security Number.
    5. Follow the prompts.
    6. If we can't find a match, you may need to use a different method to verify.
    1. Open the Nextdoor for Android app.
    2. If you haven't created an account on Nextdoor before, tap Create an Account and follow the prompts. If you've created an account, but just haven't verified, select Sign in and enter your credentials.
    3. Once you arrive at the "Verify address" screen, tap Next.
    4. Tap Verify by Social Security Number.
    5. Follow the prompts.
    6. If we can't find a match, you may need to use a different method to verify.
  • LexisNexis

    LexisNexis is a third-party service used by businesses and government agencies to gather data from public records, publicly available information, and other sources.

    Nextdoor uses LexisNexis and other third party data sources to match email addresses to home addresses. When you sign up, if there is a match between your email and home address, we can instantly verify your account.

    1. Visit the address verification page
    2. Click on the Go to your email button below the verification option Email via LexisNexis (instant and free). If LexisNexis is not available for your address, we will not offer it as a verification method.
    3. Navigate to your email program to check for an email from Nextdoor.
    4. In the verification email, click on the Complete sign up button, or the verification link.

    Once you've clicked on the button in the email, you'll be taken back to the Nextdoor homepage where you can login to your verified account.

    1. Visit the address verification page
    2. Select Verify by LexisNexis. If LexisNexis is not available for your address, we will not offer it as a verification method.
    3. Navigate to your email program to check for an email from Nextdoor.
    4. In the verification email, click on the Complete sign up button, or the verification link.

    Once you've clicked the button in the email, you'll be taken back to the Nextdoor homepage where you can login to your verified account.

    The ability to verify by LexisNexis is not yet available on Nextdoor for Android.

  • Neighbor

    Being invited to Nextdoor via email by an already verified member of the neighborhood will automatically verify your address. In addition neighborhood Leads have the ability to verify neighbors they know personally by using the Verify Neighbors feature.

    1. Click your profile picture in the top right corner.
    2. Select Lead tools.
    3. Select Verify members.
    4. A list of unverified neighbors will display.
      • If you know a listed neighbor lives within the neighborhood, click Verify.
      • If you'd like to reach out to a neighbor who is unverified, click  then select Message.​
      • If you know a listed neighbor does not live within your Nextdoor neighborhood, click  then select Hide
    1. Open the Nextdoor for iPhone app.
    2. Tap  in the bottom right corner.
    3. Select Verify neighbors.
    4. A list of unverified neighbors will display.
      • If you know a listed neighbor lives within the neighborhood, tap Verify.
      • If you'd like to reach out to a neighbor who is unverified, tap  then select Message.​
      • If you know a listed neighbor does not live within your Nextdoor neighborhood, tap  then select Hide

    The ability to verify neighbors is not yet available on Nextdoor for Android.

If you are unable to verify using the methods above, you can still verify by sending us a copy of an official document (driver's license, recent utility bill, rental agreement, etc.) that includes both your name and the address associated with your account. Alternatively, you can have an already verified member of the neighborhood contact us to vouch that you are a neighbor.

If you have moved, please follow the instructions on changing your address.
